Minor Jonada Avdia was fatally hit by a speedboat by ex-policeman Arjan Tase one year ago today, while she was vacationing with her family in Potam, Himara.
The minor was first hit by the front part of the raft and then her body was cut by the propellers, dying on the spot.
Jonada, originally from Tropoja, had come on vacation with her parents, who had been living in England for more than two decades. The event shocked public opinion throughout Albania, who rose up in protests for weeks. For this event, the entire management chain of the Border Police of Vlora, as well as the responsible inspectors, was dismissed.
On July 11, the Prosecutor's Office of Vlora closed the investigation into the tragic incident in Himara and came to the conclusion that the incident occurred as a result of the failure of the driver of the boat, Arjan Tase, to respect the area designated for swimmers, as well as the wrong maneuver while driving the vehicle.
Arjan Tase is accused of the criminal offense of "Deliberate murder" indirectly provided by Article 76 of the Criminal Code. For the other eight persons, who are employees of the border police and the municipality of Himare, the accusation of "abuse of duty" has been raised.
