A serious situation was recorded this morning on the rural Hotolisht-Dragostunjë road, in the Prrenjas Municipality, where 12 patients scheduled for vital dialysis treatment at the Elbasan Regional Hospital were left stranded due to the collapse of the road.
According to sources from the area, the road axis presents numerous damages, with potholes, mud and destroyed segments, which has made it impossible for vehicles to move. The journey towards the exit to the national road, near Librazhd, has turned into a confrontation with difficult terrain and time, while patients have experienced anxiety due to delays.
Dialysis is a vital procedure for people with renal failure, and any delay poses a real health risk. According to preliminary information, there was no immediate institutional intervention at the critical moment.
Residents of the area came to the aid of the patients, who, using makeshift vehicles, managed to temporarily open the road and allow vehicles to pass, avoiding more serious consequences.
The incident has brought to the attention the problems of rural infrastructure and the lack of an emergency plan to guarantee traffic in cases of blockage of the main or alternative axes. Residents are demanding immediate intervention to improve the Hotolisht-Dragostunjë road, as well as the Spathar-Ancient Egnatia Road-Dardhe-Hotolisht axis, in order to guarantee traffic flow, especially in cases of health emergencies.
