Four of the protesters detained during the tensions in the protest held this morning in front of the Parliament will spend the night in cells. They are expected to appear before the Tirana Court tomorrow, where a hearing will be held to determine the security measure.
The protest held today in front of the Parliament was accompanied by tensions and clashes between demonstrators and police forces, ending with 23 people being escorted, four of whom were arrested and will appear before the Tirana Court on Friday for the determination of security measures.
According to preliminary data, a group of protesters positioned themselves at the entrances and passageways used by MPs to enter the Assembly, with the aim of preventing them from participating in the plenary session.
During the protest, demonstrators threw eggs at the vehicles of the deputies, while at some points they clashed with the police officers, throwing stones at them. Some of the protesters managed to penetrate the security perimeter of the Parliament, which led to the intervention of the security forces.
Police intervened to remove the protesters and restore control of the situation, initially carrying out 23 escorts. Four of the detained persons were remanded in custody and will face the Tirana Court on Friday, where the security measure against them will be reviewed.
Tensions continued at the end of the plenary session, when police forces intervened to ensure the safe exit of MPs from the Parliament building. Water cannons and tear gas were used to disperse the crowd, while other escorts were also carried out, as the situation escalated into acts of violence.
The preliminary toll from the clashes is nine police officers and four protesters injured. Authorities have not yet made public the specific charges against the arrested individuals, while investigations are expected to shed light on those responsible for the incidents recorded during the protest.
