5 fires have been registered during the last 72 hours in the district of Vlora. Mainly in the village of Dukat, Penkovë, Zarekovë but also in Vlorë. So far, no one has been arrested, while the fire brigade is appealing for cooperation with the State Police.
Kastriot Begaj, head of the Intervention sector at the Vlora Fire Department, confirms that the situation has been problematic while the damage is considerable.
The fires are mostly intentional while we are still far from the hot season and there have been many in Vlora.
Referring to the measures, Begaj confirms that the firefighting forces are on standby, while what is required is the equipment of the latter with the necessary tools and proper logistics. The area of the municipality of Selenica also remains problematic as there is only one vehicle and in many cases the help comes from Vlora. During this period, there were also fires in apartments, mainly caused by carelessness or electricity.
The fire-fighting forces currently have 41 members in Vlora, while a season ahead where problematic situations from fires are expected again.
Meanwhile, a large fire has appeared in the forest massif in the village of Mazhicë in Bulqiza. The fire is spreading over a considerable area of oak trees that are located above the village.
