Inspector General Dashnor Sula has reacted after the case identified by the National Food Authority in the Shkodra Region, where the entity "MODI" sh.pk imported about 104 tons of refried corn contaminated with Aflatoxin B1 above the permitted norms.
According to him, verifications have shown that the quantity was mixed and without traceability, while during the physical inspection on March 4, 2026, only 9.5 tons were found, raising suspicions of illegal movement of the product.
Sula stressed that there are strong indications that part of this quantity may have ended up on the market. He referred to data from Taxes, according to which the entity traded around 119 tons during the period November 2025 - February 2026.
"Out of 104 tons blocked, only 9.5 tons have been found, as of 04.03.2026. This is the subject of investigation. There are strong indications that it has been released on the market. According to data from Taxes, the subject has traded around 119 tons during the period November 2025-February 2026," he said.
According to Sula, serious violations were found against the subject, including the destruction of the seal and the lack of traceability of the product. He announced that the AKU has taken immediate measures, blocking the remaining quantity, imposing 5 fines, ordering the destruction of the product by April 3, 2026 and referring the case to the Prosecutor's Office for criminal violations.
In parallel, institutional responsibilities for not stopping the shipment at the border are also being verified. Sula explained that the case is related to animal feed and that so far there is no evidence of direct risk to consumers, but stressed that institutions have acted to prevent any possible consequences.
