Former President of Albania, Alfred Moisiu, has spoken about the security situation in the region, questioning Serbia's armament.
He has also called for a joint national defense strategy for Albania and Kosovo. Moisiu stressed that Serbia is acquiring weapons from Russia, China and itself, without facing any real threat from its neighbors.
"Serbia is arming itself, both from Russia and China. The question arises, why is Serbia arming itself? Who endangers Serbia? No one endangers it," said the former president.
Moisiu said that history and Slavic migrations in the region still influence the political mentality.
"The Slavic world, a theory that dates back to the Middle Ages, is like that. If you look at the Slavic invasions... if you look, they're still there," he continued.
Moisiu also spoke about the state of Kosovo, which he had not supported at the time of its creation.
"The time came and the state of Kosovo was created, but I did not agree with this. Why should there be two states? Do we Albanians pose any danger? We have not been distinguished in our history for aggressiveness ," added the former president.
He underlined the need for a national defense strategy with Kosovo and stressed the importance of mobilizing reservists: "We need to have a national strategy to defend ourselves, not to invade others. We saw a move with Croatia, but I don't know what happened next. I haven't heard of a joint exercise being held yet."
According to the former president, we should switch to a mobilization system, not with money, but with reservists.
"We must have a strategy to protect ourselves as a nation ," Moisiu also told "A2 CNN."
While commenting on NATO's role, Moisiu raised doubts about the alliance's support in the event of a crisis : "We say in NATO, but now what are we not hearing about Article 5. We must think about our own account. If NATO comes to us, great; if it doesn't come, we must defend ourselves."
