DP leader Sali Berisha will appear today at SPAK under the "compulsory appearance" security measure for the Partizani affair. Berisha is being tried on charges of passive corruption of high-ranking officials.
Last time he was in SPAK, Berisha continued his attacks on preliminary investigation judge Irena Gjoka, for whom he demanded her dismissal from office, claiming that she had concealed her conviction and deportation from Greece for falsifying documents. Berisha said that he had also asked the Supreme Court of Justice to review her mandate.
The Partizani affair case went to trial on May 19. Berisha will be tried on charges of passive corruption of senior officials, as he is accused of having, in his capacity as prime minister, taken concrete actions in approving laws and by-laws, where his son-in-law, Jamarbër Malltezi, was also a beneficiary.
Malltezi is also accused of corruption and money laundering. According to SPAK, he has illegally benefited from a construction business worth 5.4 million euros thanks to government decisions taken by his father-in-law.
A few days ago, the GJKKO rejected the request of Malltez and Argita Berisha to lift the seizure of their assets. Meanwhile, the next hearing on the Partizani affair at the GJKKO will be held on November 10 at 11:00.
The other three defendants, Fatmir Bektashi, is accused of corruption and money laundering, Malltez's partner and land heir Xhimi Begeja, and financier Andia Pustina, who handled the financial and legal affairs of the company "Homeplan", are accused of money laundering. Also on trial for money laundering are three companies "Kontakt", "Homeplan" and "Studio Pustina".
