Lawyer Spartak Ngjela has commented on the figure of Fatos Nano, former prime minister and historical leader of the Socialist Party, who passed away a day ago.
Ngjela focused particularly on Nano's burial site, describing it as a "national shame" for the position and role he held in the country's history.
According to him, a figure who overthrew communism should not have a simple burial in a public cemetery.
"I have my moral, personal and national right to say that it is a shame. Here it is not understood what it means to be a prime minister who overthrew communism, Nano was the first, both a liberal and a man with a deep Western worldview and could not go and be buried in a popular cemetery. The prime minister is the prime minister. It is a great historical defect that the prime minister is given a simple burial ", the lawyer emphasized on the "Review" show on "Euronews Albania".
Ngjela added that he did not attend the funeral ceremony, as he considered it a lack of respect for Nano's figure.
" I was at the funeral myself, but I was there when we were inside the Palace of Congresses. Since they told me the funeral would take place in the municipal cemetery, I didn't go, because I was insulting both the deceased and myself ," he said.
Asked if this could have been a choice of Fatos Nano's family, lawyer Ngjela countered by saying: "I am a professional, I know the state, I don't know the family, I didn't go as a family member. The Prime Minister in a normal state is buried in national graves ," he said.
