Professor Besnik Baraj has presented some measurements of air pollution in Tirana from the particles suspended in the air, which penetrate into our blood vessels and are considered by the WHO as the most dangerous. These particles cause serious diseases such as cancer, heart attacks, etc.
Measurements in premises near the main streets of Tirana show the presence of particles from 33.6 to 92.6 micrograms/m3, many times higher than the value recommended by WHO, 5 micrograms/m3. In shopping centers in parking lots, the values reach critical levels, up to 352 micrograms/m3, from the norm of 5 micrograms/m3.

"I carried out these measurements from 08:00 am to 10:00 am, in the facilities where people sit by the bars. It was a dry day. The values are very large. They are many times the WHO recommendation", said Baraj in the show The Unexposed.
Professor Baraj has also made the measurements in the early hours of the morning, where there is minimal traffic and the particles are again at alarming levels. The values measured in 15 stations of Tirana, from 03:00, range from 31.7 - 78 micrograms/m3. So in no case less than 5 micrograms/m3, which is the WHO norm.

To make a comparison with several metropolises much more developed than Tirana. Today in London the level of PM 2.5 was 13 micrograms/m3. In New York it was 4.2 micrograms/m3. In Rome it was 12.7 micrograms/m3. In Paris it was 16 micrograms/m3 and in Berlin it was 11.1 micrograms/m3. While the measurements of Tirana carried out by Mr. Baraj, show much higher figures, from 33-92 micrograms/m3.
Baraj performed the measurements with a device which has a margin of error of up to +/- 10%. Even if you remove this percentage from the values, the pollution figures in Tirana from deadly particles are at very disturbing levels, while the mayor of Tirana has recommended to the citizens, who do not like the constructions and pollution, to "move to the countryside". / The Unexposed
