Today, Pastor Akil Pano has "complained" to fish oligarch Gjergj Luca, who asked Albanians not to declare their religion in the population census. The pastor himself, in a reaction, stated that his statement is the same as those made during communism.

Luca's call for Albanians not to declare their religion but to declare only 'Albanians' in the category of religious affiliation brings us back to the memories of the communist past.
The populist Luca takes us back to the time of the communist fathers who degenerated religion in every form. The war against religion began with the accusation of high figures of the clergy as collaborators with the enemy. While the vast majority of the clergy had high intellectual capacities, the communist regime associated them with ignorance and backwardness. The mudslinging of religious figures and personalities was only the beginning of the communist project. Then the Marxist ideology, censorship, imprisonments, the destruction of cult objects and the constitutional law for the categorical prohibition of religion in Albania.
The 'Fish Master' should be careful when he pronounces on the religion of Albanians and especially when he makes public appeals of this type, as it awakens in Albanians the memory of pain, violence, imprisonment and martyrdom of religious people.
The Albanian's religion is not Albanianness, Luc.
Pashko Vasa or Vaso Pasha in his poem called on the Albanians for unity, in a certain time and context for the country we all know.
His call was not a request for non-identification of Albanians in the religious framework, but a call for national unity.
Today, Albanians are Muslims, Catholics, Orthodox, Bektash, Evangelicals/Protestants (for this you stated that you were ignorant and I don't blame you for being ignorant). These are the five religions that are officially recognized by the Albanian state through agreements ratified in the Parliament of Albania, agreements that give these faith communities the status of religious communities recognized by the state as such.
Evangelicals/Protestants were founded as a religious community in Albania in 1892 under the motto 'Evangelical Brotherhood of Albania.' But you don't know this either and I don't blame you. This is an issue that should concern Evangelicals more.
The problem with your call is not that you don't know anything about the Evangelicals and their contributions to Albania related to religion, the Albanian language, education, etc. Your master problem is the call for Albanians not to declare their religious identity.
This brings us back to the tragic national past, Albanian communism. The suigeneris model that Comrade Enver raised in Albanian society, after previously liquidating religion and freedom. So, kindly ask next time, a little more care, a little more attention and of course more information.
