The lawyer Kreshnik Spahiu said that political prisoners in 2013 set fire to themselves to create a symbol and not the chairs of the Albanian assembly as former Prime Minister Berisha did.
In an interview for the show "Now" on "Euronews Albania", he brought to attention the serious incident where former political prisoner Lirak Bejko set himself on fire after 12 days of hunger strike for denied rights, while the current movements in the assembly considered it a political game both from the side of the opposition and from the side of the majority.
"Lirak Bejko, 10 years ago, after 12 days of hunger strike, Lirak Bejko decided to sacrifice himself and did not set fire to either the chair or the tent against the hunger strike, nor newspapers, nor books, but decided to set fire to himself in name of a cause he had supported and defended for decades. He was a former political prisoner and decided to sacrifice himself to create a symbol and a model.
In my eyes, what happens in the assembly seems to most people to be a political fight. I think it's a game from both sides. Both the Socialist Party and the opposition, Sali Berisha's re-establishment group, have won from this game. This second has won because it has managed to be factored, the second has managed to conquer all the media, television screens, become the first news everywhere, the third has managed to tighten the ranks within itself, the fourth has managed to replace the word, and the fifth has succeeded in overshadowing all new political movements" , said the lawyer Spahiu.
