The head of SPAK, Altin Dumani, reported this Monday in Parliament on the activity of the special prosecution during 2024, also focusing on the role of politicians in criminal activities.
Dumani was asked by MP Agron Shehaj if there are politicians involved in criminal groups. He made it clear that so far no politicians have been identified as being part of a criminal gang, but there was a case where a former MP is on trial for collaborating with members of criminal groups.
" We have not identified any subjects as part of criminal groups. Regarding cooperation, we have had a former member of the Albanian Parliament, who is a public matter and is on trial for other matters. I cannot give details, because investigation secrets are involved ," said Dumani.
This report comes at a time when the public and institutions are demanding transparency on the impact of politics on organized crime and the effectiveness of SPAK in prosecuting it.
