"SPAK is able to conduct, in complete independence, courageous investigations against senior officials who have proven that the era of untouchability is faltering."
The head of SPAK, Altin Dumani, spoke today at a roundtable organized by the Center for Studies and Democracy, about the work of the institution he leads, providing an overview of the results of the Special Prosecution Office.
Dumani says that SPAK has conducted courageous investigations and that the era of untouchability is faltering in the country.
"Referring to the material, progress is also noted by SPAK. It has shown that it is able to conduct full investigations in compliance with the law and the constitution and shows that impunity is being hit and the era of untouchability is being shaken. The era of impunity is coming to an end.
Likewise, the crackdown on criminal groups, drug trafficking and other crimes. As well as the trust of partners in SPAK, with the support of EU members, Britain, Switzerland, cooperation with these countries has increased. Also at this meeting there is the presence of liaison officers of these countries, I thank them for the constructive relations, cooperation and follow-up. Relations with Interpol, Europol and Eurojust have been strengthened, in the fight against organized crime.
Likewise, cracking down on crime and corruption of officials, seizing financial and real estate assets, including cryptocurrencies, which are used for various purchases, both cocaine and money laundering," said Dumani.
The head of SPAK, in his speech, also had a message for politicians, including Prime Minister Rama, where he made it clear that external factors will not influence the mission and investigations carried out by the Special Prosecution Office.
'The message is clear that crime cannot be bought or rewarded. We have also seen a significant increase in the prosecution of the criminal offense of money laundering. The fight against corruption is in a new phase. Trust in justice reform is growing, citizens are aware that everyone follows the law, challenges continue. The fight against crime and corruption requires inter-institutional cooperation. You must have faith in the integrity of SPAK prosecutors and the processes. External influence will not affect our mission and investigations into these processes.
I find this material very useful for our institution. Statistics are a problem inherited over the years, but since January, the case management system is being applied, with complete, clear statistics that help us and others. We say that we have taken a step forward, so that we have clear statistics", emphasized the head of SPAK.
