The Minister of Justice, Ulsi Manja, has confirmed today that by the end of this year, the draft of the new criminal code will be submitted for consultation.
"To become part of the opposition of the new project for the criminal code within this year, I came out and launched it for public consultation and for professionals. It was completed by the working group," said Manja.
Among the most important changes in the code are the tightening of the law on domestic violence, the sale of drugs, especially near school premises, or the possession of weapons without a permit. For juvenile crimes, justice will recognize a mitigation or a more friendly policy by first considering the level of intent to commit a crime.
The Minister of Justice also confirmed that a criminal amnesty is being prepared for the convicted.
"We will have a criminal amnesty for the convicted. The goals and principles of criminal amnesty are always guided by the principles of humanity and re-education and re-socialization of convicts in Albanian society. It also follows other principles related to reducing overcrowding in our penal institutions. Yes, we will also have amnesty. It is important to have a criminal amnesty and believe me there is no one more interested in an amnesty than a Minister of Justice", said the Minister of Justice.
Manja did not give a date when the amnesty will be implemented.
