The Special Court of Appeal has today issued a decision regarding the appeal of Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj, regarding the security measure "Arrest with imprisonment".
At the end of the hearing, lawyer Maks Haxhiaj stated that the prosecution did not present any new evidence, while he said that he hopes that the Supreme Court will be the one to decide on changing the security measure against Veliaj.
According to him, "Arrest with imprisonment" is an absurd measure when its subject is a person who has been elected 3 times by the citizens as mayor.
"The prosecution did not bring any new evidence. Such a measure is an absurdity that only happens in Albania, especially for such acts that are not dangerous. You cannot impose such a measure on a mayor elected 3 times and tell him he is dangerous."
"Dangerousness is related to the possibility of committing other dangerous criminal acts that harm someone's life and health. We expect some miracle to happen in the High Court and the request for a security measure to be accepted," said the lawyer.
