Lawyer Arben Llangozi has announced his candidacy for the position of President of the Tirana Local Bar Association. Through a public statement, he announced that the decision came after the request and support of many colleagues in the profession.
In his message, Llangozi emphasizes the need for more institutional support for lawyers, transparency and stronger representation of their interests in relation to the justice system. He states that the Chamber of Advocates should have an active role in protecting professional rights and strengthening the standards of the profession.
He adds that his candidacy aims for a more active and open Chamber towards the problems of lawyers, emphasizing that the profession needs more institutional respect and real equality in the exercise of its duties.
"Today, at the request and support of many colleagues, I decided to present my candidacy for President of the Tirana Local Bar Association. This decision is not a personal ambition, but a responsibility to the profession, to my colleagues and to the need for the legal profession to have the representation it deserves.
For years, I have stood by my colleagues, supported their concerns, and raised my voice whenever advocacy has been violated, overlooked, or treated as a secondary part of the justice system. My conviction has been and remains clear: without strong advocacy, there is no strong justice.
A lawyer is not simply a representative of a party in a process. A lawyer is a guarantor of the right to defense, equality of arms, due process and the citizen's real access to justice. In any democratic system, the level of respect for a lawyer also indicates the level of respect for the freedoms and rights of the citizen.
Therefore, the Tirana Local Bar Association will not be just an administrative structure. It must be an institution of representation, protection and the standard and voice of lawyers. It must be close to lawyers in everyday problems, react when professional rights are violated, demand institutional respect and build real support mechanisms for every colleague.
The legal profession today needs more support, more transparency, more communication, and more institutional strength. It needs a chamber that listens to lawyers, that represents them with dignity, and that does not leave their voices scattered or unheard.
My candidacy is a commitment to a more active, more open and more accountable Chamber. A Chamber that protects lawyers, strengthens professional standards, supports young lawyers and gives the profession the weight it deserves in the justice system.
The legal profession does not demand privileges. The legal profession demands respect, standards, and real equality in the exercise of its duties. This is why this process is important not only for an election, but for the direction we want to give our profession.
"I believe that the Tirana Local Bar Association should be the voice of Tirana's lawyers, a clear voice, a strong voice, a dignified voice and a voice that is heard," writes Llangozi.
