The former prosecutor of serious crimes Eugen Beci said that the security measure of arrest and imprisonment given to the former minister of health Ilire Beqaj is not in proportion to the damage caused to the state budget.
Invited to the Review show on Euronews Albania, Beci showed that from SPAK's investigations it appears that the damage caused by the abuse of EU funds by the state agency SASPAC that was run by Beqaj is about 200 thousand euros, which is much less than the damage caused in the case of sterilization (100 million euros), a file for which Beqaja has been given a security measure and an obligation to present it.
" From SPAK's investigations, through an investigation launched mainly for these funds, this state agency managed to discover 4 main points, where the total value of the damage caused by the abuse is about 200 thousand euros. In the case of sterilization, we have more than 100 million euros in damages, but obviously we have a waste of state funds much more than that of the EU funds, in the first one, a measure of mandatory appearance is set, and with 200 thousand euros, we have a prison sentence.
This person has no change in the security measure from the date when the mandatory appearance measure was assigned to him. Although he has not changed any dangerous situation, he has implemented the security measure in the most rigorous way. Why was the measure of custodial arrest taken at a time when custodial arrest is the last security measure to be taken when there is no other alternative? There must be a legal standard, as subjectivism does not serve anyone ", said Beci.
