Journalist Keti Banushi has shown details of the arrest of the former Minister of Health Ilir Beqaj, who is accused of 3 criminal offenses after the abuse of EU funds, as the head of SASPAC.
Banushi emphasizes that checks were carried out in the apartment of Beqaj and his associates by BKH agents a few months ago. She adds that phones were seized that convinced prosecutors that there is an abuse scheme.
"This is an investigation that has basically started. Mr. Beqaj under investigation for sterilization. No defendant was taken. SPAK had taken other people into the investigation. Basically, there was no genuine report. When he came to explain to SPAK about the sterilization, it was not the prosecutor who put him under investigation for the current task he had. In December, after several investigations, Beqaj's apartment was searched. It was about the task he had as head of SASPAC. We have a home inspection, which was done to Beqaj and associates in December 2023. Phones were seized that convinced the prosecutors that there is an abuse scheme. It is a matter of fictitious tenders where everything was predetermined ", said Banushi for "Report Tv".
She adds the accusations of abuses with fictitious invoices as well as the dinner at the Gzona bar in the Castle of Tirana. Banushi says that Ermal Kurtulaj was the person who protected Beqaj's interests in Gzona and SASPAC. The charges against Beqaj are: corruption, concealment and non-declaration of assets, violations and inequality for tenders.
"Abuses with fictitious invoices. An activity was tendered by the Ministry of Tourism and SASPAC, for the value of 500 million Lek, and from which the activity was a dinner, at Gzona, which cost 40 million Lek. Another charge is concealment of assets. The Gzona bar had not been declared since 2020, declaring that it no longer has shares. Interestingly, the part of the car that accompanied him to SPAK received a fine, although it belonged to Beqaj, it was in the name of Ermal Kurtulaj. A person who guarded Beqaj's interests in Gzona and SASPAC. We have 3 accusations, corruption, concealment and non-declaration of assets, violations and inequality for tenders. During today's day, house inspections were carried out. As the prosecution says that it is suspected that the network of the people involved is wider. The journalist adds that for Beqaj, there was wiretapping not only of the phone but also of the environment, as the former minister used the driver's phone to communicate with his colleague Ermal Kurtulajn.
"In some cases, he used the driver's phone to talk to Ermal Kurtulaj. There was not only telephone but also environmental tapping. During the time of the investigation, he continued to be in SASPAC, probably not suspecting that there might be another investigation, while he was under investigation for sterilization. This is an entirely different investigation. There was an indication. Despite being accused of these criminal offenses, there are abuses, this was the goal that SPAK started. It was detailed. And the car he had was not in his name. He hid the car in the name of Ermal Kurtulaj with which he used to come to SPAK.
