This morning, citizens coming from Greece to Albania have been faced with long hours of waiting. The Greek side operates with two counters while only 3 customs officers (female) brought here from Kakavija Customs work. While at the Qafë Bota BCP, the Albanian side operates with 3 counters.
The chaos in Qafë-Botë has been created after the arrest of 14 Greek customs officers, 7 male and 7 female, including the chief. The Greek customs officers were arrested as part of an organized criminal group accused of passive bribery in collaboration. The case file consists of over 2,000 pages and includes video and photographic material, along with recorded conversations of the accused among themselves and with other people.
The Police announcement states that a criminal group consisting of Customs Authority employees who were receiving unfair financial benefits for not carrying out controls was dismantled.
