The residents of Fierza in Tropoja rose today in protest against the indiscriminate use of inert materials on the side of the road and the construction of the bitumen factory.
The bitumen factory is expected to be built near the water supply of this unit, just 50 meters away from the Fierzë-Sheshi Trageteve-Bajram Curri national road.
According to the residents, these quarries are also harming tourism, causing environmental pollution and destruction of the natural habitat of the mountains. Residents have protested several times, but work in one of the quarries has not been stopped.
Citizens say that they do not have any legal documentation to exercise this activity. Residents also raise the concern of children who go to school from this road, they feel the danger from heavy machinery that transports inert materials.
In the meantime, mountain tourism is also threatened, as is the case of Bujtina Adora, which has been exercising its tourist activity for years, but at the entrance of this resort, quarries are excavating the mountain face, causing noise, dust and discomfort for tourists.
The protesters ask the law enforcement bodies to stop this illegal activity immediately and for the situation to return to normality.
