Politician and journalist Ben Blushi has been declared a peace ambassador by the municipality of Deçan. Blushi himself announced the news on social media, where he stated that there is no greater pain for a writer than to be in a place where books have been destroyed. According to him, there the Serbs have destroyed and burned more than 100,000 books along with the four libraries of this municipality.
I was invited to Decan for the presentation of my novel Artificial Paradise and was surprised when I left that excellent meeting as an Ambassador of Peace.
Deçan is a small municipality in Kosovo, between Peja and Gjakova, on the border with Albania, where during the Serbian violence of 1999 one of the most savage cultural massacres in modern European history was recorded.
There, the Serbs destroyed and burned more than 100,000 books along with the four libraries of this municipality.
So, along with the people, the Serbs wanted to eradicate their roots, something only the Nazis did when they burned books for ideological reasons during World War II.
That's why going to this municipality, where the invaders have destroyed books, was very exciting.
There is no greater pain for a writer than to find himself in a place where books have been exterminated.
For this reason too, the guests were very interested in literature, art, history, and the future, like all those who thirst for something they are missing.
I received dozens of questions from young and old, during a meeting that could have lasted 4 hours instead of the planned 2.
In the end, as if to make this meeting even more memorable, the Municipality of Deçan and the Universal Peace Federation awarded me the title of Ambassador of Peace.
On this occasion, I would like to thank the organizers and everyone present because since yesterday I have been a peace fighter in Deçan and not only.
