Genc Gjokutaj, the lawyer of the former prime minister Sali Berisha, has stated to the media that the purpose of the court in dismissing the requests for easing the security measures against Berisha is to burn his mandate as a member of parliament.
He stated that the purpose of this saga of arrests and the rejection of our demands is the burning of mandates, adding that 'we are continuing the fight, because a person under house arrest is more limited than one who is under prison arrest, this is scandalous and legally unacceptable'.
"The extension of the investigation for Sali Berisha and Jamarbër Malltez without a new fact mitigates the need for security, they no longer have a reason to follow the investigation from arrest, because there is no criterion that they should be under house arrest. The court rejected the request. The purpose of this saga of arrests and rejection of our demands is the burning of mandates. We are continuing the fight, because a person under house arrest is more limited than one who is under prison arrest, this is scandalous and legally unacceptable", said lawyer Gjokutaj.
According to the lawyers of Berisha and Malltez, at this stage of the investigation, the need to keep them under "house arrest" has been eased, and therefore a lighter measure was requested.
Berisha is suspected of corruption together with his son-in-law Jamarbër Malltezi in relation to the privatization procedures of the former Partizani sports club. SPAK recently postponed the investigation deadlines for another 3 months.
We remind you that Berisha has been under house arrest since December 30 of last year after the decision made by judge Irena Gjoka. While his son-in-law, Malltezi, was arrested on October 21 and then placed under house arrest.
