The General Directorate of Prisons has reacted to the attempted escape from Fier prison by Bledar Selmanaj during the early hours of yesterday.
An official response states that the prisoner managed to escape from the cell through a hole opened in the wall with improvised means. Selmanaj then climbed onto the terrace via a metal pipe.
Prison security forces were immediately put into action and made it possible to neutralize and capture the convict.
Statement by the General Directorate of Prisons:
On 24.09.2025, at around 03:48, detainee Bledar Selmanaj attempted to escape.
He emerged through a hole opened in the wall with makeshift tools and climbed onto the terrace via a metal pipe, hiding without passing any security perimeter. Security forces were put into action and after controlling the territory, he was located and detained.
During the detention, the detainee violently resisted the Prison Police officers. He is currently accommodated in isolation rooms, pending the completion of investigative actions to fully clarify this incident.
This citizen has attempted twice more to escape from the institutions of execution of criminal decisions in Albania, through active actions.
The General Directorate of Prisons ensures and guarantees a high level of security and smooth progress in the prison system.
