"I can't afford to pay it"/ Fined for drunk driving accident, former MP seeks reversal of decision

Former MP Qani Xhafa, sentenced by the Court of First Instance to a fine of 900 thousand lek, requested a change in the sentence on the grounds that he has no income or ability to pay this amount.

It is learned that Xhafa's lawyer stated before the Special Appeal that, given his client's financial hardship, the court should overturn this sentence and give another sentence, one with probation.

Xhafa was investigated by special prosecutor Sotir Kllapi due to an accident he caused in Elbasan while drunk, an event for which the prosecutor requested the MP be sentenced to 6 months in prison.

After being fined in June, Xhafa appealed the decision. Meanwhile, during today's session, the Court of Appeal postponed the decision.
