In the Committee on Civic Initiatives, the head of the Competition Authority, Denar Biba, complained about the conditions in which this institution works.
In his speech, he stated that meetings are held in a room that is also used as an archive, while there is only one toilet that is used by 35 women.
He called for an urgent solution while also talking about another problem, that of hygiene. According to him, there are 35 women who are forced to use only 1 toilet.
"The Competition Authority is a purely budgetary institution with no other income. As of September, the budget has been implemented at 63%. For 2026, we are requesting an additional 14.2 million lek for the expansion of the building, maintenance of the technology infrastructure in the IT system.
In terms of human resources, 3 inspectors were dismissed in 2024 due to poor working conditions and low pay. We are like sardines, 7 people in an office. One issue that requires urgent solutions is the working environment.
This institution was established in 2004, at the time of its establishment it had 13 employees and moved to the current premises where it still exists today after 21 years. It started with 13 employees, today we are 49, we are in the same premises.
We are also in conditions of hygiene problems. 35 ladies going to one toilet, it is banal that I am saying, but the moment has come to say that it can no longer hold. There are no archives, in the premises where we hold meetings it is used as an archive. The walls are full of files, which should not be kept like that, but we have nowhere to keep them", said Biba.
