The punishment of Bashkim Dedje, "VOA": The only judge left in the

The Special Court for Corruption and Organized Crime, GJKKO, today sentenced the former president of the Constitutional Court, Bashkim Dedja, to one year of probation, after finding him guilty of concealing assets and making false statements about the money used to buy the house.

The Special Anti-Corruption Structure, SPAK, accused the former judge Dedja of hiding assets related to a house on the beach and the source of part of the money, with which he bought a house in the capital, in the form of self-declaration of assets.

Former judge Dedja said that he borrowed a part of this money from his brother-in-law, who secured it from his work in emigration, while he was using the house on the coast.

SPAK had requested a year of imprisonment for Mr. Dedja, while the GJKKO sentenced him to six months in prison, a sentence converted to one year of probation.

He thus becomes the first former judge, who was sentenced by the Special Court, after a full cycle of the vetting process, which removed him from the high office he held in the Constitutional Court.

Former judges and former prosecutors removed from the justice system due to the vetting process are also under investigation for similar charges.

The Albanian justice system has been undergoing a deep structural reform for several years, which includes the selection of judges and prosecutors based on wealth and professional integrity.

During this process, nearly three quarters of the system's judges and prosecutors were reviewed and more than half of them were dismissed. / VOA
