Unlike post-World War II Germany, the 'West' for Albanians does not seem to be on either side of the wall...
Loyalty, servility and unconditional obedience, these are some of the 'virtues' that guarantee a quick rise in the parties of Edi Rama and Sali Berisha. For those who abandon these 'virtues', there is public denigration, threats and exclusion, all at different levels.
Recent developments in the two political camps, that of the Socialist Party and the Democratic Party, essentially reveal that the style with which Rama and Berisha lead their parties resembles "Des Führerprinzip", the fundamental doctrine in Nazi Germany.
“Des Führerprinzip” (The Leader's Principle) was a doctrine that required absolute authority to be in the hands of the 'Führer' (leader), with unquestioning obedience from all subordinates.
The doctrine was based on four pillars;
1-Absolute Authority: The Führer was the ultimate source of all executive power, law, and policy formulation within the party and state.
2-Hierarchy and Obedience: The structure was a pyramid with the Führer at the top and subordinate leaders who ruled their respective spheres and demanded unconditional obedience from those below them.
3- "Will" over Law: The doctrine essentially translated; what the Führer commands is our conscience, replacing formal legal processes with the leader's personalized command.
4- Elimination of Democracy: This doctrine abolished democratic processes, replacing elected officials with appointed loyalists.
Looking at what has happened and is happening with the Socialist and Democratic Parties, it can be said with all our hearts that we are talking about a reflection of the Nazi doctrine. Both Rama and Berisha have eliminated all critical minds, opposing voices and figures who threatened their power over the years. Then they have filled their place with servile, blind loyalists and "yes men", turning the parties into personal bunkers.
The effects of this entire system are suffered by citizens, who for years have been without worthy representatives in the Assembly, who raise their cards only for personal interests and those of a narrow circle of people close to the government. And on the other hand, without a healthy option for rotation.
