The police have responded to the fire that broke out in a shopping center in Lushnje. Through an announcement, the police informs that measures have been taken to evacuate the residents.
The shopping center is located on the first floors of a building and above it there are residents living in their apartments. For this reason, it was intervened to prevent the flames from spreading higher.
" Around 2:40 p.m., we were informed that a fire broke out in the "Metropol" Shopping Center in the city of Lushnja. The services of the Lushnja Police Station and the "Shqiponja" Special Force have gone to the scene and are taking measures to evacuate citizens and residents in the shopping center. National security forces have also been sent to support the Local Police for the evacuation of citizens. Fire services are at the scene and are working to extinguish the flames. A special investigation group has been set up and under the direction of the Prosecutor's Office, work is being done to clarify the circumstances of the fire , the police announced.
According to sources, there are several asphyxiated people who have been taken to the hospital. Meanwhile, from the broadcasted footage, some citizens were forced to leave the balconies of their homes. Minister Taulant Balla himself has reacted by saying that the situation is complicated because of the apartments above.
" A big fire in the Metropol Shopping Center in Lushnja has created an extremely difficult risk situation, while the building also has residential areas on the upper floors. The fire brigade and the police are fighting to bring the serious situation under control ", writes Taulant Balla.
It is learned that many fire engines have gone to the building and efforts are being made to extinguish the flames. But the heavy smoke has caused many people to have health complications. Preliminary suspicions are that the cause of the fire could have been an electrical spark.
It is learned that there are still people inside four entrances. According to the testimonies, it is said that some of these people are not answering the phones, which increases the fear of asphyxiation and blockage in the premises of the house.
