Former police chief Arben Hajdarmataj has spoken about the attack on lawyer Sokol Mêngjesi.
He said that he does not exclude the political reason as the cause of the violence that happened to the lawyer on May 29 in the area of Ish Bllok.
Hajdarmataj connects this doubt with the fact that Mêngjesi is currently Sali Berisha's lawyer. Hajdarmataj said that this would not have happened if he had been a lawyer for any minister of this government.
"This is an unprecedented case, every citizen feels sorry for what happened to the lawyer and law professor. At the moment he is Berisha's lawyer and this gives him a political connotation regardless of how the event unfolded, it cannot be stripped from this part. I am convinced that if he had been a lawyer for any minister, it would not have happened to him regardless of the intentions of the aggressors, it cannot be denied that it is also related to politics", he said to "A2 CNN".
In order to prove the true purpose of this event, for Hajdarmataj, the identified perpetrators should also be banned. Hajdarmataj emphasizes that legal evidence must be collected to prove that the purpose is the one stated by the institutions, for a court case.
According to him, it would be scandalous if this event had anything to do with politics.
"One of the aggressors surrendered. This event has been clarified by the statements of the self-surrendered author. Evidence and facts will be needed to prove the intention, it is important for the citizens to be clear. According to the reports from the state institutions, it is said that the attack happened because of a court case and the goal was to scare him. If we are in front of this fact, it is somewhat unclear, but I have shadows and doubts that in the middle of the day in Tirana, the perpetrators do not manage to be caught by the police in an environment full of cameras from businesses and the municipality. The suspected perpetrators have not been caught so far. I hope that they will be arrested as soon as possible so that legal evidence can be gathered to prove that the purpose is what it is said that if there are other purposes that may be related to politics, this is scandalous and meaningless to a normal state", he continued.
Hajdarmataj also emphasized that the country is in a critical situation regarding order and security and one of the reasons, according to him, is the government's approach to citizens. According to him, public opinion is contaminated by the situation of violence and criminality in the country.
"We are in a critical situation in terms of security order in the middle of the day in the eyes of the child, a personality of justice is hit and the aggressors have no fear whatsoever. There is no normality. One of the reasons is the way the government approaches its citizens. Let's not forget that these criminal activities that are published, this whole administration that is involved in corruption and the like infects the public opinion and contaminates the whole situation of order. Our environment is contaminated with criminal activity. And a favorable criminal situation is created. This state we are going through as a society gives confidence to those who can commit any type of crime and are not afraid of the institutions. Society has no reaction" , concluded the former police director.
