Journalist Artan Hoxha has stated that the Special Prosecution Office should call former President Ilir Meta to testify about the January 21 case, as he was the object for which citizens were called to that protest by the Socialist Party, in opposition at the time.
On "Off the Record" he said that Meta had warned him beforehand that there would be unrest.
" I have said that the president of the time, Bamir Topi, and then the prime minister, Mr. Berisha, the speaker of parliament, the former deputy prime minister, Mr. Meta, I have noted there, the leader of the opposition at the time, Mr. Rama, because Strasbourg has definitely put a column on them and has requested an exhaustive investigation and this is the last chance we have for an event like "January 21". If it is not investigated now, it will never be investigated again. Mr. Meta did not need, in my opinion, to request Mr. Meta. The prosecutor in the case should have called him. Because Mr. Meta, how should I say, is the object, part of the protest or the motive why that protest was called. Mr. Meta, at that time, a video also came out. I heard Mr. Berisha talking about Dritan Prifti. But poor Dritan has passed away and cannot answer, but it is a fact that after the video came out, Mr. Meta was fired for €700,000 that we could not prove whether he took it or not. But "We heard that there was talk of €700,000. He resigned and it happened on January 21 ," Hoxha said.
According to Hoxha, Meta has important information, as he publicly declared 24 hours before the rally that ended with four protesters dead on the boulevard, that there would be riots.
" Now what does Mr. Meta know? Mr. Meta and his party exponents came out the day before the protest and warned that there would be very serious incidents, there would be head-on clashes between protesters and the police. And now I ask the question, how did Mr. Meta know this? How did he find out that the President of the Republic knew from the intelligence service or from other services, but Mr. Meta had resigned. Did he know from the party structures at the base or from sources, or from the informants that he had within the ranks of the intelligence structures in Albania. But it is a fact that he warned the day before and these are the chronicles of the time. I have published them since that time and he said that tomorrow there would be incidents. Incidents, murders happened. So do you know if Mr. Meta has the information? I believe he does. He also has the actions of the government of that time, of the minister of that time, but also of those of the opposition. So even if he does not declare himself, he must, and I know that he is on the list of persons who will " to be called ," Hoxha declared on A2 CNN.
The journalist further revealed that according to his sources, SPAK will also call former Prosecutor General Ina Rama to testify.
" I believe that even the former prime minister and deputies, including Prime Minister Rama and deputies of the Socialist Party who were in the role of organizers at that time, will be called. So the investigation must be exhaustive to get to the truth ," Hoxha underlined.
