Criminology expert, Ervin Karamuço, speaking about the new measures that have been taken to increase security in schools, added that the distribution of narcotics is the biggest problem at the moment.
In an interview for "AbcNews", Karamuço said that this is a positive initiative, but according to him, security should be not only inside the perimeter of the school, but also outside the fence.
The expert emphasized that the age of users of narcotics has been reduced to 12, which means that security must be increased even in 9-year-old schools, as he added that criminal groups are already using students to distribute drugs in schools.
" We have forgotten, but in the first years of the transition, we carried out inspections in schools for students who were suspects. Teachers and a staff always reported on different information. Now the perimeter has to see what we will do inside the school and outside the fence. I was glad for the initiative, it is a model taken from the West. Schools have been targeted as objects that are very endangered recently, in an experimental form at first, but also profitable from criminal groups.
We have had events that endangered the lives of students, fortunately not like in Serbia. The age of students who use narcotic substances has gone up to 12 years, which means that checks are needed even in 9-year-old schools. Today we don't have exponents of crime entering Serbian schools, we don't have a security perimeter. But these are introduced differently, using school students. We should keep them under observation, because the school knows who they are and measures should be taken, up to expulsion ", said Karamuço.
