The People's Advocate, Endri Shabani, visited protesters escorted by the police after clashes recorded during the protest near the Parliament.
After meeting with them, he stated that the institution he leads has launched an investigation to examine the behavior of State Police officers during the escorts.
According to Shabani, during the visit he was interested in the situation and procedural rights of the escorts, while adding that the footage published from the moment of the police intervention is disturbing and will be part of the verifications.
"I went inside, inquired about the rights of the detainees, what their status is. The request you had was that they are not allowed a lawyer. They have not yet been assigned the status under which they were detained. At the moment the status has not been assigned, we have launched an investigation into the behavior of the police. The right to protest is constitutional. We are concerned about the videos, we will investigate and recommend measures from the beginning to the end of the decision-making chain. The right to protest cannot be limited. We will complete the investigation, but at this stage those videos are disturbing," said Shabani.
The Ombudsman emphasized that the conclusions and recommendations will be made public after the completion of the administrative investigation.
