The former Minister of Defense Fatmir Mediu has explained why he asked for 90 witnesses, including Albanian and foreign officials, in the trial for the "Gërdeci" case and his claims related to the investigation.
Invited to the column "Opinion" in News 24, trying to avoid the responsibility from himself, Mediu said that the accusations that the dismantling of weapons was done for reasons of economic benefit, are baseless. According to him, dismantling was a condition imposed by DASH after an inspection in 2006-2008.
" We asked for summary judgment based on the element of the criminal code, which is a statute of limitations, which the court's decision not to evaluate is absurd for us and it shows an irregular process... This is the first issue, whether there is a process or not. We did not ask with the idea of asking for a reduction, because the guilt for me is the same for something that I did not commit. Second, I have asked that the truth be followed to the end.
The third is to understand the political game that has been played using the families of the victims, who have every right in the world to raise claims, but for their representative to go and ask for a trial, it is absurd...
It's not 90, it's more. All those who are in the process of investigation, who were witnesses, etc., this case is starting to be judged from the beginning.
But why? Because the first fable was that the dismantling was done for economic gain, which is untrue. It was an obligation. The US Department of Defense has made an assessment in 2006, 2008 and Vice. The American Secretary of Defense has been involved in Albania's relationship, in receiving NATO's invitation. The American teams have been daily assistance.
To clarify once and for all this propaganda building, considering the minister as a military authority, with completely false accusations. What was most absurd is the accusation that the minister has avoided the Armed Forces, I have never been the only one, I have respected them both professionally and humanly.
Court decisions have excluded the minister from the explosion. I am accused of not respecting the agreement, the stabilization agreement of the association, which entered into force a year later. I am accused of choosing the company, which is not true. The first three orders of the minister have been appreciated by the court as legal" , he said, among other things.
