Journalist Ola Xama, speaking about the overvaluation of the lek and the continuous decline of the euro in our country, stated that the main cause is the overflow of the market with foreign currency.
Invited to the show "The Unexposed", Xama explained that in our country, about 12 billion euros have been converted for 2023, this figure has doubled from 2015, when about 6.5 billion euros have been converted.
She further added that this doubling is inexplicable, but according to her the main suspicion is the laundering of crime money.

" We have seen an appreciation of the local currency since 2015, which also coincides with the phenomenon of cannabis and until today. All the causes are related to the local market in Albania, that is why it is called an increase of the national currency and not a depreciation of the euro. Why there are many euros in circulation? There are some who say they come from immigrants, tourists, debt in euro currency. Exchange flows during 2023 have been very high and inexplicable with fundamental factors.
The historical average of the euro conversion has been 5 billion euros per year. Since 2016 we see that it has increased to 6.5 billion and in 2023 we suddenly see 12 billion euros converted. So since 2016 we have doubled. This is about 50% of GDP.
Dollar inflow conversions have been around 2 billion but have now gone to $3 billion in 2023. Dollar inflows are also increasing. We have also increased dollar exchanges with Latin American countries. We have increased investments from Ecuador. Even for the pound we have a doubling of the conversion from 2019 to 2023. This is more cash because the pound is converted more at exchange points ," said Xama among others.
