Instead of reforming and banning expired drugs, the new minister repeats the empty promises of her predecessors, leaving patients at the mercy of the corrupt hospital system...
In the podcast with Edi Rama, the part-time Minister of Health, Evis Sala, made several statements that, at best, show a lack of seriousness and, at worst, are a warning about leaving healthcare in the miserable state it is in.
From the day she was introduced to office, she declared that "the impossible is possible until it becomes impossible."
Now, to echo Rama's propaganda, he said that "medicine is free because the state finances it, but it is not free because it has a cost," calling the prime minister's 12-year-old promise of "free healthcare" a bluff.
Regarding the emergency to improve the quality of hospital services, the lack of medicines and the scandals with expired medications, Minister Sala stated:
– "There are several key problems, for which I have many ideas that will be effective within a year, but the final result will be in four years."
So, citizens must wait another four years for the "effect" of her ideas, which makes a total of 16 years since Edi Rama's promise of "European health."
The same thing was promised by her predecessors; Ilir Beqja, Ogerta Manastirliu and Albana Koçiu, who instead of reforms, engaged in bargaining for concessions and tenders.
The result is known: hospitals without medicines, without equipment, without working conditions and with low salaries that have forced thousands of doctors and nurses to leave the country.
Meanwhile, those in power are treated in private clinics inside and outside Albania, while the poor remain at the mercy of fate in public hospitals where basic medications are lacking.
One month in office and no action taken on expired medications
Although she has been in office for a month, Minister Sala has not taken any action to stop the import of expired medicines, which continue to enter hospitals through tenders won by the mafia network of Janis Karathanos, Tomë Doshi, Dorian Sadiku and DP MP Kliti Hoti.
Likewise, no measures have been taken to supply the Oncology Department with the necessary medicines and to implement treatment protocols for cancer patients.
Evis Sala declares that he "has ideas" and "feels responsible", but in practice no change has occurred.
As revealed in Rama's podcast, the minister seems determined to continue bidding for tenders with his blessing, following the model of Ilir Beqja, Ogerta Manastirliu and Albana Koçiu.
If we judge by her words and actions so far, the Albanian healthcare system has no reason to expect improvement, but only the next phase of degradation; this time under the leadership of a minister who treats the medical profession as a "part-time" part of her career./ Pamphlet
