UNICEF said 10.8 million children in Ethiopia need urgent humanitarian assistance in 2024.
In its latest Ethiopia Humanitarian Situation Report, the UN agency said at least 20 million people, including some 10.8 million children, are in need of urgent humanitarian assistance in 2024.
UNICEF also said it needs US$535 million to address the multiple and growing challenges facing vulnerable populations and help avoid the catastrophic consequences of overlapping crises in Ethiopia in 2024.
Funds are needed to meet basic food needs, provide reproductive health services, vaccinate children and provide clean water to families in need.
"The coming year will continue to bring many challenges for the people of Ethiopia. New and persistent drought, conflict and disease epidemics are accompanied by increased food insecurity and the prediction of flood events,” the UNICEF report warned.
