From the first data it is known that Beqja was arrested on the charge of corruption for donor funds.
Today, the former Minister of Health, Ilir Beqaj, was arrested around 07:00. Two other people have also been arrested, one of them is Ermal Kurtulaj, Beqaj's financier.
Beqaj's lawyer has confirmed his arrest, while it is learned that the operation was executed by the Tirana police.
From the first data it is known that Beqja was arrested on the charge of corruption for donor funds.
Ilir Beqaj abused EU funds while he was running the SASPAK agency. Through trusted people, one of whom is Ermal Kurtulaj, head of the Eusair project, at the Agency, they allegedly benefited from large sums of money, through fictitious invoices for incomplete services issued by various businesses in Tirana.
The agency in question "in cooperation with the Ministry of Finance and the donor community will coordinate all the foreign aid that the Albanian government will receive for development programs and projects.
The Agency will also support the Ministry for Europe in fulfilling its responsibilities for the integration process in the European Union, but also the Chief Negotiator and the Negotiating Group in the programming and monitoring of EU financial assistance in function of the EU accession process.
The former minister is being investigated under the security measure "obligation to appear" for "abuse of duty" related to the sterilization concession contract in violation of the law.
