Doctor Suela Xhufi has described the situation in Albania regarding drug use and the lowering of the age of users as alarming.
The doctor told the case of a 16-year-old patient who had started using marijuana at the age of 9 and was currently a cocaine user.
"The policies of the people involved see it as a business and at the moment they introduce the use of young people from the sixth grade. There was a case of 9 years old. He was a cocaine user and had started smoking marijuana at the age of 9 and he was not from Tirana, he was from the rural areas of the north. There are many children from these areas who start using drugs at a young age," she said.
While talking about the effects the drug had on him, the doctor emphasized that her patient was a very aggressive child, with bipolarity and mood disorders.
"He was a bipolar child, very aggressive, with mood disorders and a low level of intelligence on the verge of schizophrenia. He had no desire to develop himself, he had the idea that everyone around him was to blame and everyone had to work for him. He had no sense of guilt at all," the doctor said.
According to Xhufi, it is a very well-organized network of drug supply and sale, making it possible to get it by phone faster than a pizza.
"I have patients who use cocaine who are not only users but also dealers. We are talking about people who have become very rich over the years and this enrichment affects state structures. We have high accessibility. You can do politics as much as you want, but when you have access to substances you can later get a pizza, rather than drugs. Drugs come to you by phone. It is a very well-organized network," she told "A2 CNN".
