Cannabis farm in Belgium, the Prosecution requests the return of Albanians to

The Belgian federal prosecutor's office has requested the return to prison of all those arrested in the June 11, 2025, operation, following an anti-drug operation that spanned several cities and led to the arrest of 15 people, 10 of whom are Albanians. The arrestees are accused of creating cannabis farms, cultivating and trading narcotics, while 120 police forces participated in the operation.

In total, a few weeks after this operation, only 9 of the arrested remained in the cell, while 6 were released from the consultation room at the Bruges Court, in exchange for financial guarantees or the easing of security measures.

Yesterday, the Federal Prosecutor's Office requested the return of those released to their cells, while the court will decide whether or not to accept the appeal.

During the operation two months ago, police forces carried out searches in apartments and buildings (18 in total) in Kortrijk, Menen, Harelbeke, Waregem, Werwick, Moeskroen, Asse, Machelen, Antwerp, Ronse, Ledeberg, Verviers, Engis and in the Brussels Region.

Police found three active cannabis plantations in Ghent, Harelbeke and Verviers, which included over 3,200 plants and seedlings.

Plantations under construction were discovered in Menen and Kortrijk. During the operation, 4.8 kilograms of cannabis, three vehicles, prohibited weapons and cash were also seized. A financial investigation led to the seizure of bank and cryptocurrency accounts.

Fourteen men and one woman, aged between 27 and 53, were arrested. Ten of them are of Albanian origin, the others are three Belgians, one Congolese and one Romanian.

The investigation revealed that the criminal organization used intermediaries to organize the large-scale production and trade of cannabis. This method helped the main leaders to stay out of the attention of the authorities. The plantations were guarded and maintained by people with illegal or insecure residence status. Forged documents were also used.
