Inflow of immigrants to Kakavija for holidays, 6 thousand people entered in one

At the Kakavija border crossing, the high flow of citizens entering Albania continues. Thus, during the last 24 hours, a total of 9,500 citizens have been processed, of which 6,300 are entering and 3,200 are exiting.

Since the middle of December, when the influx of arrivals for the holidays began, there have often been queues at the entrance due to the limited number of counters on the Greek side of the border. Today, the Minister of the Interior Ervin Hoxha and the General Director of the State Police Ilir Proda arrived in Kakavije to inspect the situation and they also met with the Greek side to monitor the situation. Minister Hoxha said that he previously had a meeting with the ambassador of Greece in Albania to share this problem and that according to him the situation has improved significantly.

"We visited the border crossing point Kakavije, during an inspection I had the opportunity to meet the leaders of the Greek police with whom I shared some concerns. Last week I had a conversation with the Greek ambassador about the plan of measures to deal with the influx of Albanian citizens during the movement at the border crossing points. coordination center"

Minister Hoxha from Kakavija has also spoken about the salaries, bonuses and additional hours still unpaid for state police employees.

"The Ministry of the Interior has made a proposal to withdraw the criteria and exclusion of the state police regarding a criterion that in other years has not been implemented due to the budget. I believe that on Monday the Council of Ministers will approve the act and the draft decision which we have proposed for the awarding of rewards", said Hoxha.

Pronunciation of the Minister of the Interior Ervin Hoxha

Today, together with the Director of the State Police and the Director of the Border Police Department, we visited the Kakavije Border Crossing Point.

I also had the opportunity to meet the leaders of the Greek Police, with whom I shared some concerns. Last week I had a conversation with the Greek Ambassador on the plan of measures to cope with the influx of Albanian citizens during the crossing at Kakavija and other border crossing points. I note that measures have been taken to cope with this influx.

Together with the head of the Greek police, we also visited the Coordination Center, which was set up in implementation of the intergovernmental agreement, it functions as such, with joint forces between the Albanian police and the Greek police.

I take the opportunity to thank the representatives of FRONTEX. Currently, based on the agreement we signed between FRONTEX and the Albanian government on illegal migration, we have had very good levels of success. Illegal migration is down to 60% and services continue.
We are here once again to be as close as possible to the citizens. I take this opportunity to wish the Albanian citizens "Happy Holidays"! To implement the instructions of the State Police during the crossing at the border crossing points.
Also, to the journalists who were here today with us, to make it possible to convey the news. Thanks to you, the news becomes even more true and I wish you happy holidays too!

Question: In the meeting you had with the Greek side, should your Greek counterpart also know that Greece was represented at the secondary level?

Minister Hoxha: I don't think that Greece was represented at the secondary level. We are here today to visit and inspect the measures taken to cope with the influx of Albanian citizens leaving and entering our country. I took the opportunity to visit the Police Coordination Center to once again support the Albanian police forces and encourage them in the performance of their duties. The priority is the free and smooth movement, without problems, of Albanian citizens on both sides of the border.

Question: So far, neither the center that was brought down, nor the meetings between the two parties have yielded results. Queues have continued to be and there have been cases of queues of up to 4 km. What are these meetings for, because nothing has changed?

Minister Hoxha: The cooperation between the two polices is a mutual cooperation, which prioritizes facilitating the free movement of citizens. Meetings at the level of police officers and commanders of common points are held periodically. Following what I said before, I had the Ambassador of Greece in my office, to whom I expressed my concern for a more mutual, even more joint cooperation to make it possible to cope with the influx of Albanian citizens on both sides of the the border. As far as I have been informed, this year we have a better improvement than other years in terms of management and facilitation at the border crossing points.

Question: Are you aware of the complaints of the police officers who have not yet received the reward money for overtime. What will happen to these?

Minister Hoxha: The Ministry of the Interior has made a proposal for the removal of the criteria and the exclusion of the State Police regarding a criterion which in other years has not been implemented due to the budget. I believe that on Monday, the Council of Ministers will approve the act and the draft decision, which we have proposed for the awarding of remuneration to State Police employees. Additional and supplementary hours are all provided for in the Normative Act, which has been approved, and all additional hours will be given according to legal provisions. There is no misunderstanding or misalignment of the structures and draft decisions issued by the government in relation to the awarding of remuneration and additional hours of the State Police. Everything is according to what we have said and everything will happen according to these decisions provided in the relevant law. Thank you.
