Former President Ilir Meta has appealed to the Appeals Court of Kosovo on August 13, when the Special Court left him in prison.
Preliminary investigation judge Erjon Çela considered Ilir Meta's request to be released unfounded and for this reason Meta continues to be held as a pre-trial detainee in prison 313.
"Honorable Court! With decision no. 546 dated 13.08.2025 of the Court of First Instance against Corruption and Organized Crime, it has decided: The rejection of the request of citizen Ilir Metaj, for the replacement of the personal security measure from "arrest in prison" provided for by Article 238 of the Criminal Procedure Code, to the extent of the obligation to appear before the judicial police officer, the ban on leaving the country and the property guarantee. Disagreeing with the above decision, we decided to appeal it to the Special Court of Appeal for Corruption and Organized Crime", states the request submitted to the court by Meta's lawyer, Kujtim Cakrani.
For SPAK, which was against the request to mitigate the prison sentence, there is a possibility that Ilir Meta, if not kept in a cell, could intimidate witnesses.
