Former SP MP Jurgis Çyrbja will continue to remain in prison, after the GJKKO rejected his request to replace the security measure 'arrest with imprisonment'.
Judge Etleva Deda dismissed the defense's request, a decision that came just a few days after SPAK closed the investigations into the former socialist MP and sent the request to the GJKKO to start the trial.
Çyrbja has been detained by order of SPAK and decision of the GJKKO since October 20, 2024, for connections with Altin Hajri's organization in Durrës and revealing state secrets through debunking police operations and providing information about the criminal group.
On July 15, SPAK completed its investigations and sent the case file against three defendants to the GJKKO for trial; Jurgis Çyrbja, Ahmet Masha and the much-wanted Altin Hajri. At the top of the list is Jurgis Çyrbja, a former Socialist Party MP, who is accused of a series of criminal offenses committed while he was exercising a public function in the Albanian Parliament.
According to SPAK's investigations, the former socialist MP is accused of leaking state secrets, supporting the perpetrator of the crime, and electoral corruption. This includes exposing police actions, extracting data from TIMS, and other information to help wanted persons avoid capture.
The SPAK file states that former MP Çyrbja had a friendship with internationally wanted criminal Altin Hajri, promising the latter that he would help him in exchange for votes during the elections. We recall that Altin Hajri was wanted for the kidnapping and disappearance of Jan Prenga.
