
The Constitutional Court has reacted to the murder of Judge Astrit Kalaja in the premises of the Court of Appeal by Elvis Shkambi.
The Constitutional Court states that this serious act constitutes a direct attack not only on the individual, but also on the principles of justice and the rule of law.
" The Constitutional Court of the Republic of Albania expresses its deepest shock and pain for the tragic event that brought about the loss of life of the judge of the Court of Appeal of General Jurisdiction, Astrit Kalaja.
The Court extends its most sincere condolences to his family, relatives and colleagues, honoring the memory of a magistrate who served justice with dedication and dignity.
This serious act constitutes a direct attack not only on the individual, but also on the principles of justice and the rule of law.
The Constitutional Court considers that the protection of the right to life, physical and institutional security of judges, citizens seeking justice in these courts and the general public is a direct responsibility of the state, which requires immediate, determined and sustained action. The protection of judges is the protection of justice itself, its independence and the public's trust in state institutions.
"In these painful moments, the Constitutional Court stands by the family of the deceased, his colleagues and all those who are facing this loss, reaffirming its determination to protect the dignity of the judiciary as a fundamental pillar of the constitutional order. The Constitutional Court also wishes a speedy recovery to the two injured citizens ," the Constitutional Court said.
