Former Prime Minister Sali Berisha, once the leader of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, was supposed to start the marathon trial at the GJKKO today for the “Partizani” case. The former Prime Minister did not appear before the trial panel, claiming that he was not notified.
The GJKKO subpoena was delivered on Friday and accepted by Malltezi, but the latter and Berisha's defense argued that they were not notified in time.
This, according to analyst Arjan Curri, is a tactic by Berisha to prolong the trial as much as possible.
In "Top Story", Curri stated that this trial will end with a conviction for Sali Berisha.
"I think this trial will end with a conviction for Sali Berisha because it was not opened in vain. The Criminal Court has not brought out anyone innocent, a criminal conviction removes you from politics permanently, knowing this, the only thing left for him is any kind of maneuver to delay him as much as possible, the first and second instance to take several years. If he were to go here, he would have to postpone his life in politics.
If lawyers get sick very rarely, there are many maneuvers, Berisha himself could get sick, it could take up to 4 years.
"It's not just Berisha, it's also the builder and the financier, it's enough for one of them to be absent and the session is postponed. It's a smart strategy. The victory of time in this case is the smart action. This is a battle that could last several years for Sali Berisha and his defense," Curri said.
