Former judge Besnik Muçi said that criminal groups in Albania have taken on the nuance of a mafia.
Buçi emphasized that some groups have moved to an advanced stage of criminal organization, giving their activities nuances similar to those of the mafia.
"Criminal groups, in my opinion, have gone from criminal groups with elements of organized crime activity, ordinary crimes, to a very structured crime, it has now taken on the nuance of a mafia," he told "News 24".
According to Muçi, there is a territorial division of criminal activity in Albania, with some groups concentrated in cities such as Shkodra, Elbasan, Fier and Vlora.
"There is a map of criminal groups in Albania, so there are groups that carry out activity in certain territories in the country, Shkodër, Elbasan, Fier, Vlora, and others, but in a more general sense, criminal groups extend their activity throughout the country, because they intertwine and interact with territorial elements and individuals throughout the territory.
"There is no geographical map of criminal groups, but there are strengthened and stabilized groups. Criminal groups that, in my assessment, have gone from criminal groups with those elements of organized crime activity, of ordinary crimes, have gone into a very structured crime, it has now taken on the nuance of a mafia ," he said.
