Homage was held today at the premises of the National Opera and Ballet Theater in honor of the former Speaker of Parliament and one of the oldest figures of the Socialist Party, Servet Pëllumbi. Amidst pain and strong emotions, family, friends, associates and personalities of Albanian politics gave their final farewell to the veteran politician.
In a touching speech to the audience, his son, former MP Arben Pëllumbi, expressed with a trembling voice and tearful eyes that he was proud of the father he had. He said that with the passing of Servet Pëllumbi, he not only lost his parent, but also an important pillar of his life.
Arben Pëllumbi recalled the lessons and values that his father had passed on to the family, while emphasizing that his departure leaves behind a great void, but also a lot of light.
"Family members, friends, comrades, colleagues, collaborators who are here today or who are spiritually close to us due to inability, everyone who has stood by us on behalf of the family, I thank you.
It is difficult to find words when you lose a father, you lose a pillar of your life, a silent support, a figure who led you with example and dignity. Our father was not just a parent, he was a man of rare value, fair, calm and respected by all who were lucky enough to know him.
He taught us that life should be lived with honesty, responsibility and above all with love for family. He taught us to stay strong even when life gets difficult. To not bow our heads in the face of injustice and to always maintain our dignity. Every memory with him is a priceless treasure, for me and for us.
His words, his advice, his calm presence, all of these will accompany us forever. Today I proudly say that I am his son. Proud of the family he built, of the values he left us, and of the love he gave us unconditionally.
He will always live in us in the way we live, behave, and love one another. His departure has left a great void, but it has also left a strong light in the example of his life, and this light will continue to guide us.
"Farewell professor, thank you for everything you gave us, you will always be with us," said Arben Pëllumbi in his speech.
