Homage is being held at the Opera and Ballet Theater in honor of Servet Pëllumbi, the former speaker of the Albanian Parliament and one of the most important figures in Albanian politics, especially during the transition period after the '90s.
The tributes began at 09:30 and will continue until 12:00. Then, at 13:00, the funeral procession will head to the Sharra cemetery, where it will be escorted to its final resting place.
The tribute ceremony was attended by numerous personalities from Albanian politics. From the opposition, the Democratic MP and Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, Agron Gjekmarkaj, was also present, who honored the figure of Servet Pëllumbi.
The writer and publicist Preç Zogaj also paid tribute, describing Pëllumbi as a rare model in Albanian politics.
"Servet Pëllumbi was the last of the moderates, of the wise at the level of political leader in Albania. Loyal to the principles of the European left. He left in Albania the example of a flexible politician, of bridges of dialogue, of difficult solutions like few others. With his death, Albanian politics is poorer ," said Zogaj.
Servet Pëllumbi was one of the most prominent figures in the Socialist Party and Albanian politics in recent decades. He held several terms as a member of parliament and also served as the Speaker of the Albanian Parliament.
For his contribution, he was decorated by former president Alfred Moisiu with the "Gjergj Kastriot Skanderbeg" order.
Servet Pëllumbi was born on December 14, 1936 in Korça and for many years was considered one of the most important voices in the country's political debates. He remained active in political life for decades, until his retirement from public life in recent years.
