A 42-year-old mother, Leta Koçi, threw her newborn baby into the Tapiza river. She is suspected to have given birth at home and unassisted by any doctor, even during the entire pregnancy she never went to the hospital.
Journalist Aida Topalli was on "Good Morning Albanians" this Wednesday, where she said that the 22-year-old daughter of the 42-year-old woman, but also her husband, stated that they were not aware that she was pregnant.
According to the journalist, the husband of the 42-year-old was not present most of the time, so this has raised doubts that the baby may have been from an extramarital relationship.
"Even the police are very confused regarding this story because there was no cooperation from the 42-year-old woman, nor from her family members. Both the adult girls and the husband have denied knowing that she was pregnant, even the 42-year-old herself when she went to the hospital did not indicate that she was post-partum.
She is suspected to have given birth at home, unassisted by any doctor. Her children in the statement made describe her mother as a closed woman. She has 5 children, the girls are over 18 years old.
The 22-year-old girl said that her mother had not told her that she was pregnant. The husband, on the other hand, was at work, that he stayed at work and was away from his family for a long time or was in emigration, this should be clarified, but he also said that he was not aware of the pregnancy. This has led the police to suspect that the child came from an extramarital affair," said Aida Topalli.
