The Çopja brothers recently had $10 million in cryptocurrency seized. But that's not all. They are also suspected of having gold bars, which have not yet been seized by SPAK.
Former prosecutor Besnik Muçi says that these are the two forms, the oldest and the newest, in which crime invests.
" There are two forms, it is the oldest form in the world and the newest form. Gold bars [the oldest] have been around for several years, civilization has been storing wealth in gold bars, in gold. The new form is cryptocurrency. Both of these are forms of medium of exchange ," said Muçi.
He said he had never heard of crime investing in 40 kilograms of gold bars before.
" It will be like a beehive, people will come and dig now where the gold is. 40 kilos of pure gold ," he said.
Regarding cryptocurrencies, Muçi said that crime is attracted to this form as it is difficult to identify by law enforcement agencies.
" They know well that law enforcement agencies, especially in Albania, I know that we are not yet prepared to conduct investigations of this nature. Even on a global scale, it is very difficult for law enforcement agencies to detect cryptocurrency wealth. I am sure. The seizures that law enforcement agencies make should be very minor, minimal in relation to the value that circulates ," said Muçi.
