Young Albanian saves Italian businessman from drowning, Meloni reacts

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has congratulated Albanian Elton Zefi, the young man who saved an 85-year-old Italian man who fell into a river with his car and was in danger of drowning.

Meloni wrote on Instagram that a person's life was saved thanks to the courage and altruism of the young Albanian, whom he called a hero.

"A life saved thanks to the courage and altruism of those who chose to intervene. Heroes ," Meloni writes.

Elton Zefi, 32, didn't hesitate for a second when he saw a car plunge into the waters of the Battaglia Canal in Padua.

He immediately jumped into the water and managed to save the life of an 85-year-old businessman who was in danger of drowning inside his vehicle.

Giuseppe Salvalajo, a well-known entrepreneur from Padua, lost control of his car and ended up in the canal for reasons still unclear.

The vehicle began to sink rapidly, while Salvalajo remained trapped inside, in a state of shock.

At that moment, Zefi, who was celebrating his birthday that day, saw the dramatic scene and immediately jumped into the water, along with another man who was nearby. They initially tried to break the car's windows, but without success.

Zefi then said that he had managed to spot the old man's hand from the back seat, where the window had remained open.

There he realized there was hope. After several attempts, tired, with his feet numb from the cold and risking drowning himself, he decided to make one last attempt.

The 85-year-old managed to get out of the car and get ashore.

A few moments later, emergency teams arrived, and the entire moment was recorded in a video that quickly circulated on social media. The elderly man was transported to the hospital, where he received medical attention and is now out of danger.
